Whats the difference between WordPress.org and .com

by mitz on April 9, 2010

I get asked this question allot!! What is the difference between WordPress.com and WordPress.org? Well in my early days of making websites I found out the hard way. I heard about WordPress and how great it was for making websites so I decided to get one for myself and see. There is no doubt that it was free and easy but when it came to customization I was stumped.

What I did is I went to WordPress.com and signed up for a free website. I began to build a great website until I decided I wanted to put AdSense on it. Well it was almost impossible to do, and in the end I gave up. After a while I was sent an email stating that my website was taken down because it had not been updated enough. That was fine however if this was a WordPress website hosted on my own paid webhosting then I could have left it for as long as I wanted. So this is what I do now. Not leave websites for dead, but host all of my websites on my webhost and install WordPress content management system on it. That system is the key to everything! Why didn’t someone tell me that they all were not raving about the free WordPress hosting?
