In Wordpress you can have more than one user for your website. The first user is by default the admin that will have all the control and be able to change all the settings available. Any users that are created after that can be made an administrator or just a user or even an author.  There are different privileges for all and in this video below it shows how I create a user account with limited privileges. When I sign in as an admin I see everything and can delete or edit anything I like. Whereas if a contributor or author signs in they can only make a post and cannot change any settings or edit other posts.

Therefore you can invite anyone to be an author on your Wordpress website and you know they will not be able to mess with anything they are not meant to be touching.

How to add a new user in Wordpress?

  1. Sign into your Wordpress dashboard.
  2. Click on the Users section in the menu on the left side.
  3. Click on add new user.
  4. The hardest part here is choosing if the user is going to be an author, contributor, or an admin?

What is the difference between an administrator, an editor, an author, a contributor, and a subscriber?

From www.wordpress.org
Administrator – Somebody who has access to all the administration features
Editor – Somebody who can publish posts, manage posts as well as manage other people’s posts, etc.
Author – Somebody who can publish and manage their own posts
Contributor – Somebody who can write and manage their posts but not publish posts
Subscriber – Somebody who can read comments/comment/receive news letters, etc.

In a previous post I showed you how to put adsense into your website manually, however this video shows you how to install a plugin that will help you manage your advertising needs.

I would rather put the adsense code into the website myself. Here’s another video that shows you how. http://wordpress-websitebuilder.com/how-to-put-adsense-ads-inline-with-your-wordpress-posts/

When developing a Wordpress website I highly reccomend that you plan what categories you are going to have. You shouldn’t just create Wordpress categories on the spare of the moment, they should be search engine optimized.

The first way to SEO your categories is to use a title, preferably, that has your keywords included in it…If you look over to the right of this post you will see that my categories all try to have my keywords in them. (Same with my domain name). The second way to SEO your categories is to write an appropriate description for it. Most people neglect to write a description for their categories at all. This is a big mistake!

Watch this video to see how I Optimize my Wordpress website and create SEO categories.

Installing a Wordpress theme onto your Wordpress installation is easy. Even if you already have a Wordpress website you can easily go back and change the theme at a later date. I am a bad example for this and seem to change my themes at least once a month. It’s not my fault that the Wordpress theme designers keep releasing fantastic looking FREE themes for me to download!

In this video you will see how to install a new Wordpress theme from the themes available at Wordpress.org and from a downloaded theme on your computer.

Here are some of my favorite sites for free Wordpress website themes:

I actually teach people how to make a Wordpress website, add content to it, and get found by the Search Engines. The biggest problem I have found is that they forget to fill in all the details when attempting to publish a post. Some beginners have been know to even forget to put a title to the post.

I have developed a quick checklist that you should get familiar with when posting content to your Wordpress website.

  1. Write a descriptive title to your post. Try and think what people would type into the search engines for this subject. What words would be the most common. Make sure your title has at least 5 – 10 words in it..Anymore is overkill.
  2. Fill in the body of your post. Make sure each post is over 250 words. visitors do not like to go to a webpage with two sentences of information on it. They will leave in a second. Also add subtitles with your keywords throughout the post, and bulleted lists. Google loves good information and you will be rewarded for it.
  3. Fill in your tags. These are basically keywords that apply to your post and title. They are not about the website. It’s all about what’s in the post. This is how you let people know what it is about.
  4. Choose a category. Do not publish posts in the uncategorized section. If you do then this will show up in your category list. You should try to choose a category that relates to the post. So therefore if the person clicks on the category, they know there will be posts related to that.

The great thing about using Wordpress to build your website is that it has a plugin for almost everything you can imagine. I have a bad attitude about websites now…It is almost a lazy attitude. I no longer worry about designing or tweeking my website as I know I can easily fine a great wordpress theme and a handy plugin to enhance my website.

Plugins can do Search Engine Optimization for you, get you traffic, make auto links, make auto posts, make different sections on your website, and more.. Installing a plugin is so easy, a two year old could do it.

In this video below I will show you how to install a plugin to your Wordpress website. Plugins will save you many hours or messing around with html and php code. I like to avoid all the un-necessary work and therefore I think plugins rule!

It sounds like a daunting task, however it is very simple. To install Wordpress using fantasico in cpanel hosting is by far the easiest way to get the job done. I wish I could have found a video tutorial like this when I was struggling to work it out some years ago.

If your website hosting comes with a cpanel that includes fantastico then you are laughing. You can have a website  installed within minutes. Hosting such as hostgator and Just host can help you out with this.
